Introduction: Chitosan acetyl salicylate is a unique compound composed of Chitosan and acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin). Acetylsalicylic acid has two main applications: first, provide analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent; second, delay the formation of thrombus as an anti-platelet aggregation agent. However, large doses of acetylsalicylic acid have a strong stimulating effect on the gastric mucosa and can cause ulcers. The acetylsalicylic acid and Chitosan in Chitosan salicylate are bonded through ionic bonds and this compound can be decomposed slowly in the stomach into large components: acetyl salicylic acid and Chitosan. Chitosan has a film-forming feature, due to which it can be used as stomach protection agents for the stomach ulcers caused by acetyl salicylic.

Characters: off-white powder; water-soluble; solubility varies with the contents of salicylic acid; has discoloration property when exposed to light, therefore this compound should be protected from light.
